DescriptionHer photographs are carefully cropped selections of the artist performing alone in front of a mirror while wearing colorful sculpture/clothing hybrids of the artist's making. While the images point to voyeuristic impulses, body art, pin-up photos, and even BDSM imagery, Petschnig sees these photographs very much as paintings: formal, abstract compositions that she creates with the body and fabric (she was originally trained as a painter).(Scott Speh)
(...) It is a series of prints of the artist's body with patterns of material that reference fetish garments with an 80?s punk flair. While there is a familiar quality to the images of the body with fabric cut and stretched, the focus of pattern and shape offset by flesh is revelatory. Leather, mesh, nylon and ribbon are situated as signifiers of sexual display but abstracted from pornographic content.
